Vietnam Boat Tragedy: How an annual company-sponsored trip turned tragic for 15 Indians
Of the 15 deceased, 10 are from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam released the names of 32 Indians who were aboard the speedboat when it flipped near Phu Quoc Island.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief after 15 Indian nationals were killed in a boat tragedy near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam and offered condolences to the bereaved family members.
The boat carrying 36 people, including 32 Indian tourists, capsized off Phu Quoc coast, leaving 15 dead.

Reacting to the tragic incident, PM Modi said he was “extremely saddened” by the tragic accident, adding that Indian authorities are providing all the possible help to affected families.

My prayers for the early recovery of the injured survivors. Our Embassy and Consulate are providing all possible assistance. Our officials are also in close contact with the Vietnamese authorities,” PM Modi posted on X.

According to Vietnam’s VN Express, the speedboat was operated by Ocean Pear Island Company.
It was ferrying tourists from Hon May Rut Islet to An Thoi Port, around 25 kilometres from Phu Quoc Airport, when it overturned in the afternoon (local time), throwing all those on board into the sea.
While 21 people were rescued safely and brought to shore, 15 tourists, including two women, were dead.

“As per information received from official sources, the following 32 Indian tourists were onboard the boat which capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam a few hours ago,” the Embassy said in a post on X.
There were three crew members and one flight attendant apart from the 32 Indians onboard the boat.
